Reception looking back and forth 10th January 2020

Friday 10th January 2020- Looking Back and Forth in Reception

Looking Back – what have we enjoyed:

It has been lovely to catch up with the children about their holiday and they all seem very happy with their Christmas presents.

This week I told the children we will be learning about ourselves and our bodies. I asked them what they would like to learn and got a very long list of body parts, so we might just qualify as doctors by the end of this half term. Our writing this week has been about things we like and things we don’t like and this has also been the inspiration of our new display in class (coming soon). We have set up a doctor’s surgery in the play area and we have also got a lovely new number mat in the construction area. In maths we are continuing to learn our numbers and focused on addition. I also showed some of the children how to add using a numberline. This can be done using a number line and a counter and jumping forward: 2 add 3 = put the counter on 2 and jump forward 3. What does the counter land on?

Looking forward

I am out all day on a reading course on Monday and Mrs Saxton and Mrs Raven will take the class. We will be doing a labelling activity in our writing time and continuing with addition in maths. We will also be learning about the sense of touch.

Questions you could discuss at home:

What things do other members of the family like and not like?

Why is it important to drink water?
