Y5 13.12.19 Looking Back and Forth

Friday 13th December 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5

Looking back:

This week the children have worked together to stage their own class election. They worked in groups to create a voter profile, exploring the issues that are important to people. They then created a manifesto for their ‘party’ and presented it to the rest of the class. The class then voted for the party’s manifesto that they liked best.

The children have also researched the legacy of the Ancient Greeks - in between lots of carol service practises!

On Monday, we were privileged to be joined in assembly by Buddhist monks from Thailand. They held a question and answer session all about their lifen South East Asia.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed creating a manifesto and holding a class vote.
  • We loved listening to the Buddhist monks.
  • We learned lots about all the things we do, and go to today, that were developed by the Ancient Greeks.
  • We are enjoying practising the songs for the carol service.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask which group they voted for in our class vote, and why.
  • Ask your child to tell you what they learned about Buddhism and the Buddhist monk’s life.

Looking forward:

Next week, we will be concluding our Ancient Greek topic and tying up a number of loose ends. We are all looking forward to the carol services and the pantomime on the last day.

Wider Opportunities:

To be updated with next term’s practise pieces in January.
