Year 4 we 14th September

Hi All,

Week 2 was another super week.  The children explored the Norse myth of ‘Thor and his mighty hammer’.  The Marvel comic fans among the class were in rapture!  The children over the week rewrote the myth, putting in their own individual twists and phrases.  (I did say to them – that if I was reading 33, what would make their myth stand out? – I am pleased to report the class took on the challenge with relish and I have been enjoying myself immensely reading their stories).

Next week we will be looking at the book ‘The cloth of dreams’ and recreating it into a myth.  This was the children's choice after a class vote.  I am really trying to encourage the children in developing their descriptive phrases and challenging themselves with exciting word choices.

To help your child – play the games 101 words for

Happy –

strong –

sad –

big –

small -  this is just an impromptu game that can get them thinking about all the amazing words that they could potentially use.

In maths the children consolidated their addition and subtraction skills this week and next week we will be looking at:-

Adding several numbers;

Read, write 4-digit numbers and know what each digit represents;

Compare 4-digit numbers using < and > and place on a number line and

Finding pairs with a total of 100; adding to the next multiple of 100 and subtracting to the previous multiple of 100 and  subtract by counting up to find a difference.

In the afternoons we will be continuing our work on ‘Peaceful places’, Swimming  (the children seemed to really enjoy their 55 mins in the pool) as well as computing and French.

Some of the highlights from the children

  • Writing my Thor story
  • Completing my sea-thing child work
  • Swimming
  • Painting my shells
  • 5 mins a day reading.
