Looking Back and Forth 19.4.24

Y2 Friday 19th April 2024– Looking Back & Forth

Looking back:  This week we have enjoyed our new text- The King Who Banned the Dark and written character descriptions. In maths, we have developed our understanding of halves, thirds and quarters. We have thought of amazing questions about plants in science and Florence Nightingale in history.

Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • I liked PE because we did tennis with rackets and balloons. X4
  • I enjoyed everything this week!
  • I liked hand writing because we have been learning a different group of letters.
  • I enjoyed maths because we have been learning about fractions.
  • I liked playtimes because I made a bug hotel with my friend.
  • I enjoyed thinking about question about flowers in science.
  • I liked playtime because I made a microhabitat for insects.
  • I enjoyed our new history topic about Florence Nightingale x4

Family discussion questions:

Next week we will be looking at the features of letters- please discuss any letters you might receive in the post. What is the same? What is different about the letters?

Looking forward:

Next week will be looking at the features of persuasive letters in English and in maths we will be investigating unit and non-unit fractions. In science, we will be exploring what seeds need to germinate.

PE is on Tuesdays! Please ensure school PE kit is worn.

Reading books are changed on Mondays. The reading folder is needed in school every day. Thank you.

Please continue to read every night as this underpins so much learning in Year 2. For every consecutive 14 days of reading the children will receive 10 house points and see their face on the ‘Reading Challenge Wall of Fame’. Well done to the 9 children that completed the challenge again this week and one child that completed it for the 6th time and received a certificate this week. Please record when you read with your child in their reading diaries so we can track their progress and see who has completed the challenge this term!

Have a great week,

Mr Warhurst
