Looking Back and Forth 28th March 2024

Y2 Thursday 28th March 2024– Looking Back & Forth

Looking back:  This week we investigated the microhabitats in school and identified the parts of a food chain. We have used the vocabulary producer and consumer to describe the position of  living things in a food chain.

Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • I liked learning about food chains because I learned how food chains work x10
  • I enjoyed English because we published our writing.
  • I liked doing everything because it is really fun!
  • I liked doing piano because we did ‘thumb over the four’! X2
  • I liked reading the story – ‘Just Because’ x2
  • I liked playtime because I did a big puzzle with my friends x2
  • I enjoyed learning about food chains- I learned that a shrew is an animal.
  • I enjoyed RE when we drew our own mezuzah
  • I liked learning about microhabitats and that they are part of a habitat.

Family discussion questions:

Next term we will be learning about fractions. Over the holidays, discuss with your child any examples of fractions they can see or use e.g. half, quarter or three quarters. It will also be getting a bit warmer (hopefully) so please talk about any signs of Spring you notice.

Looking forward:

Next term we will be reading and enjoying a new text- The King Who Banned The Dark and writing responses to the text. In maths, we will develop our understanding of fractions, statistics and time.

PE will be on Tuesdays next term! Please ensure school PE kit is worn.

Reading books are changed on Mondays. The reading folder is needed in school every day. Thank you.

Reading books should be brought into school every day. Children’s books will be changed weekly.

Please continue to read every night as this underpins so much learning in Year 2. For every consecutive 14 days of reading the children will receive 10 house points and see their face on the ‘Reading Challenge Wall of Fame’. Well done to the 7 children that completed the challenge again this week. Please record when you read with your child in their reading diaries so we can track their progress and see who has completed the challenge this term!

Have a great Easter break,

Mr Warhurst
