Reception Looking back and forth week ending 28 May

Hello all

Well our week ended on a high note with the lovely weather. We finally managed to get our seedlings into the soil. Keep your eye on the vegetable patch next half term.
The chicks have been a huge hit in class and the children have built elaborate castles using the big blocks for them to play in. I delivered the chicks back to the farm that I got the eggs from on Friday afternoon (after a quick pit stop at 7 Sisters ice cream farm!)
This week in class we did a big write about the focus book Mr Gumpy's Outing. The children then wrote about their boat outing and who they would let in the boat. The children did a great job of applying their phonics confidently. Next half term I will continue to work on getting more independent writing out of them. If they can write two or three simple sentences without me having to say each word for them I shall be delighted. It's really a memory thing.
In maths over the past two weeks we have learnt halving and doubling which some children have found quite tricky. I will revisit this next half term. In art they finished their line drawings and these have been stuck into their art books.
During PE on a Tuesday they learnt a few steps to go with the Our House song. On Friday it has been about athletics and straight line running.
Next term our general theme is Journeys.
We hope you have a lovely half term.
