we 15.3.18 Year 1

Hi All,

We are very excited about our trip to Alma Park on Monday!

In English time this week we will be completing our unit of work on instructions. Last week the children planted their own sweetcorn seeds, so we will be watching to see how they get on. These plants will come home at some point if they grow. All being well you could have corn on the cob for a September feast (might be a bit late for bbqing).

In maths we will be continuing with the new topic on multiplication and division. Last week we looked at ‘groups of’. We visited Noah’s Ark and worked out – feet of 2 tigers, if 3 gorillas had 4 bananas each, how many bananas altogether. The children seemed to find this a lot of fun.

If you would like to support your child with their maths work. It would really be a great help if you keep practising counting in 10s, 5s and 2s.

In the afternoons the children will be looking at Eid as a follow up from our exciting trip to Alma Park. In science the children will be continuing their work on exploring the world of plants. Last week the children looked at Scotland as part of the British Isles. the afternoons the children are keeping a tab on the World Cup, looking at where the countries are in the world. There is a merry band of committed record keepers, keeping a track of results of all the groups.
