we 6th October Year 1

Hi All,

This week in English we will be continuing on our topic of ‘the river’. The children will be writing non-fiction texts about animals found near the river. Last week we found out about beavers. If you have the opportunity ask your child about what they know about these industrious creatures – fingers crossed they should be ‘fonts of knowledge’! We will continue to research animals you find near rivers.

Remember if you are looking at Non-fiction books at home please point out these important features to your child.

  • The contents page
  • The index
  • Photographs
  • Captions
  • Diagrams with labels
  • How often books ask a question at the top of the page and answer it on the page.

In maths, we will be continuing our work on counting and focusing on using the >< = signs. As well as using the laptops and playing fun counting games.

In the afternoon we will be continuing our work for the exhibition. We will composing pieces on the ocarina for the exhibition as well as finishing off our water backboard.

Highlights of the week

  • We were super excited about seeing the Manchester Storm ice hockey players.
