we 8.6.18 Year 1

Hi All,

In English time this week we will be continuing with the unit on Instructions. The children have created their fruit kebabs now, that did quite literally ‘go down well’. This week the children will be looking at imperative verbs (bossy verbs) – the verbs used in instructions (cut, put, eat or wash). The children will then be moving on to writing instructions for planting seeds. If you would like to support this at home, the best way is by baking! The children will get first-hand experience of following a set of instructions, if you can show the children the layout of the recipe as well as talk about how the instructions are set out (direct and clear). Or to help further, if you are doing any gardening – talk to your children about growing seeds and (linked to their science work with Mrs Saxton) what plants need to grow?

This would really help to consolidate their learning.

In maths we will continuing our work on multiplication and division. At this stage of the children’s education, we work on looking at arrays or groups of .

If you would like to support your child with their maths work. It would really be a great help if you keep practising counting in 10s, 5s and 2s.

In the afternoons the children will be looking at Judaism in R.E. on Monday. In science the children will be continuing their work on exploring the world of plants. Also the children are exploring the British Isles in geography.
