Week Ending 11th November Year 3

This week in Year 3 we have had lots to do! We have been looking at what we have learned in maths, reading, grammar and spelling since the start of the year, as well as having a quiz for our knowledge of our last Science topic!

In Literacy, we have started to look at instructions and explanations, with a focus on how to write an amazing set of instructions. We have learned lots about this and next week we will be using this knowledge to help us look at explanation texts. We have been basing some of our ideas so far on our current class book of The BFG by Roald Dahl.

In Maths, we have been exploring our times tables in more detail, thinking about how to write number sentences in the 2, 5 and 10 times tables, as well as how we can use these to help us solve more complicated number sentences. We will be continuing this next week whilst we move on to looking at the 3 and 4 times table.

In Science, we had an exciting start to our new topic of forces and magnets as we received a letter asking us to help find lots of exciting activities ideal for a science fair to help other people learn all about magnets. Next week we will have two experiments to do to start us off on thinking about how we can make this a really exciting topic to teach others about.

During this next week, we will also be starting a new area of study in geography, computing, art and RE. These will all be very exciting!

We have had a great first week back from half term with lots of exciting things to think about. Let's make next week even better!

Reminders:

- Spellings went home on Friday, due for the spellings test on the 18th. You do not need to bring your spellings homework back in, as it is for you to use and help you to learn your spellings as well as the rules.

- Maths homework has not been set this week, but it will be sent home by Mrs Benson on Thursday.

- Science homework from over half term will be collected on Monday to help make our big poster of magnets knowledge.

- English homework also went home on Friday, due in on Wednesday when it will be marked with Mrs Tedd in the afternoon.

All the Year 3 staff are very excited for the week ahead and we look forward to making a start on some exciting new learning!

Enjoy your week!
