Y1 Friday 8th December 2023– Looking Back & Forth

 Y1 Friday 8th December 2023– Looking Back & Forth

Looking back:

We have had a great week in Year 1- everyone has worked so hard this week and have enjoyed practising for our Christmas performance.

In DT we have begun our quilling project and looked at different moving books and pictures.

We have consolidated our autumn 2 learning by completing quizzes.

In PHSE we have looked at the story of ‘Ten Little Pirates’ to help us understand that games can be played by everyone regardless of their gender.

Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:

√ Showing how well we have learnt our spellings in our spelling test.

√ Looking at moving books to see what features they have to help us when making our moving pictures.

√ Planning our instructions for how to trap a witch.

√ Quilling for our Christmas cards.

√ Consolidating our learning this half term through quizzes.

√ Practising for our Christmas performance.

√ Jumping, throwing and balancing safely and accurately in PE.

√ Testing materials using lights to see if they are opaque, transparent or translucent.

Family discussion questions:

  • What are the different elements to moving pictures and books?
  • Can you name the 4 countries of the UK?
  • Can you spot any consonant blends in your reading books?

Looking forward:

Next week we will write our instructions for how to trap a witch.

In DT we will make moving pictures and continue with our Christmas crafts.

We cannot wait for you to see our Christmas performance- we have been working so hard!

Spelling and handwriting/ Phonics homework is sent home each Friday and is due back in the following Friday. Handwriting / Phonics is based on the letter we have practised in school and the spellings are based on what we have looked at in school including High Frequency Words (HFW) or Common Exception Words (CEW) from the Year 1 spelling list. I will send 3 spellings home and will be tested informally on a Friday morning. There may be some repeated words if these have not been applied to our writing in class. This is nothing to worry about and gives children experience of homework before Year 2 and helps with their Year 1 handwriting and spelling expectations.

Book change on Thursday.

Please continue to read every night. If this could be recorded in reading diaries so I can track progress for our 14 day Reading Challenge.
