Y3 Looking BAck and Forth 10/1/20

Friday 10th January 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 3

Looking back:

Everyone! I really hope that you had a wonderful Christmas and that the New Year will bring many more happy times for you all. The children have come back in a great frame of mind for learning and I’m really proud of what they have already achieved this week. We have started our new History based topic this week and have already begun to enjoy finding out about the Romans. We have prepared for our writing about a Roman Villa which we really enjoyed finding out about and have begun to discover the Legend of Romulus and Remus. We have spent time recapping multiplication too and have embarked on our first Arithmetic specific lesson which will happen each Friday hereafter. Being introduced to our new reading project – Accelerated Reader – has gone down well with our class, as has the idea of our Recommended Reading Shelf, starting next week. Our Music lesson this week went incredibly well with every child performing for the rest of the class and on film. Great job everyone!

Year 3 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Coming back to school!
  • Fish n Chips lunch
  • Music performances and moving like an animal to music.
  • Dancing with bells on.
  • Times Tables Game.
  • Mrs Sant’s challenges in Maths.
  • Receiving a Whole Class Certificate in Assembly for
an outstanding attitude to leaning this week.
  • Illustration art in the style of Quentin Blake.
  • English – working on our estate agent leaflets.
  • Being with Mrs Sant
  • Once again – everything!

Family discussion questions:

Ask your children…

  • Who are Romulus and Remus?
  • Who is Quentin Blake?
  • What is a Domus and an Insula?
  • Which would they rather live in – an Insula, Domus or Villa?

Looking forward:

Next week will be our first week of swimming lessons on Tuesday afternoon, so we are looking forward to that. We will be writing our Estate Agent Particulars, continuing to develop multiplication and division, finding out why the Romans invaded Britain and finding out what Music was like in Roman times and how we know. We will be welcoming Mrs Benson back to Class Three and I know that will be a big hit with the children.

In terms of the Swimming Lessons, please be aware that if your child needs to wear goggles for medical reasons, we do have an official form to complete at our reception desk and of course any parent is welcome to request one should their child require them for those reasons. Your child will also need a swimming hat for their lesson each week and so if you have the chance over the weekend to purchase one that would be great. If not, the pool will lend them one for the first week. If you have any questions about the swimming sessions, please do email me or find me in school and I will help if I can.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Sant
