Year 2 10th January Looking back and Forth

Friday 10th January 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 2

Looking back:

I have been really impressed with how well the children have settled back in after the Christmas break. We have been writing character descriptions of familiar fairy tale characters, remembering to check and edit them. In maths, we revised place value then moved onto statistics. The children used bar charts to answer questions about the data, then created and saved their own using the computers.

We have been busy reading texts and answering questions about it in our guided reading sessions. The children also love voting for the end of the day story each day – they get very excited to find out the winner.

We have begun learning about The Great Fire of London in our new history topic. It has been great to see lots of children finding out facts about it at home and bringing them in to share.

Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Voting for the end of the day story
  • Using the computers to make bar charts
  • Assembly about our twin school by Matthew Flint

Family discussion questions:

  • What do you know about the Great Fire of London?

Looking forward:

  1. PE sessions Fridays (gymnastics)
  2. Maths – addition and subtraction methods
  3. History – The Great Fire of London
  4. Science – materials
  5. Reading books are changed on Monday so please ensure your child has their pack with them.
