Year 4 looking Back and Forth- Friday 19th April

Friday 19th April – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

This week, the children have settled back well into their routines.  We have begun a new book in English, we think this one is a good one.  We already know there is a not-so-pleasant witch and a girl called Jub with 6 fingers on each hand.  We know that Jub is in charge of the happy endings in stories and that she releases them every night.  We have so many questions!  In maths, we have started a new unit of work on fractions, which is going well.

Questions to ask at home  -

  • What does antonym mean?
  • What does synonym mean?
  • What is a mixed number in fractions?
  • What is a numerator?
  • What is a denominator?
  • What is a unit fraction?
  • What is a non-unit fraction?

Children’s highlights of the week

  • My Happy Mind – looking at what character strengths we look for in our friends
  • TTRockstars
  • Painting our clay brooches
  • Showing our Viking Longboat homework
  • Fractions – working with mixed numbers
  • Creating my poem – this girl can
  • Reading the first page of our new story.

 Looking forward:

This next week, the children are going to see what has happened to the eggs!  This is part of their science topic on Teeth and Eating.

The class will also be looking into Viking Longboats more as well as evaluating their Design and Technology work.  The children will be creating a 3d model of a throne using Purple Mash software.

Homework in Year 4

Maths – Unit 13 – extension sheet division problems

English – Antonyms and synonyms.  Also witch poems comprehension

Reading – daily at least 15 mins – remember to take the Accelerated Reader Quizzes

Rockstars – as much as possible 10 mins daily is ideal – at least once a week for 20 mins

Spellings  – Mrs Riddell – Please learn them for the test on Wednesday.  It is better to look at them for 5 minutes each day than try to learn them all in one night.  The children remember them better learnt over the week.
