Year 6 - Week in Review - Friday 14th September 2018

Year 6 - Week in Review - Friday 14th September 2018

Our first full week of Year 6 is now complete and the class has settled in so well.  We are really pleased with how they are working and enjoying the lessons - long may this continue.

We have begun to create characters in our English lessons with some great imagination on display.  Maths has seen us practise our place value skills and work on some tricky reasoning investigations.  Premier Sports are improving our dance skills - (the pupils' skills, not the teachers') and Mrs. Cooper is continuing to teach about the events of World War 1.  When asked what they have learned and enjoyed this week, the class answered: World War 1; all the different types of nouns; English; the maths homework.  A good range of topics to begin with.

We have begun to use our Year 6 Homework Diaires.  These should be used by the pupils to record homework which they have been given in class.  There is also a section for pupils to record reading which they have enjoyed outside of school.  Pupils have been tasked with taking ownership and responsibility for using these, including asking a parent or carer to sign the weekly page (usually) on a Thursday evening) for checking by Mrs. Timmins on the Friday.  If pupils have remembered to have their diaries signed, then they earn a house point.  Easy points!!

Thank you to all the parents who joined us on Friday afternoon for the "Welcome to Year 6" meeting.  We fully understand that not everyone could make this time, therefore a copy of the handout will be issued to your child on Monday.  The PowerPoint presentation is also available on the Year 6 webpage to download.  If however there are any points that you wish to clarify, or questions you would like to ask, please do contact us and we will be happy chat to you.

Our Year 6 webpage is the best way to keep our families informed of what has been going on; letters that might have been issued; notes for upcoming tasks; events; etc.  It is updated usually on a Friday evening, but certainly by Sunday.  Please do take the time to check this page for information.  May we also remind you to click on the links to see photographs of our pupils at work in school, or to check the gallery section - you might be able to share your child's work with them. Homework may also be available by clicking on the relevant tab.

Thank you again for a great week, Year 6.
