Y6 – Friday 19th April 2024 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6
Looking back:
It was fabulous to welcome our class back on Monday – to begin their final term with us at Goostrey and it was lovely to see that they have all enjoyed their break. We soon got back into the swing of things and this week, we’ve already completed our first piece of writing based around “The Archipelago”. Maths has seen us using protractors to draw 2D shapes accurately and we’ve got to grips with the topic of calculating the volume of 3D cubes and cuboids. During the afternoons, we have enjoyed showing our creative sides and our nightlights have come on a treat: coloured cellophane, wires, batteries, glue and tissue paper completely covered the classroom tables and floor but it was totally worth it! We enjoyed creating music and song with Mrs Sant and we practised our cricket skills (whilst dodging the rain showers) on Friday afternoon. No two days are ever the same in Year 6!

Family discussion questions:
- Can you define the following words: archipelago; peninsular; sphinx?
- What is isometric paper used for and what effect does it give (if you’ve drawn on it correctly!)?
- If a cuboid has the following measures, what is it’s volume? Can you calculate this and use the correct formula? Cuboid lengths: 12cm long; 6cm wide; 5cm height
- Tell me which instrument you play in your music group for Mrs Sant and what your song is about.
Looking forward:
- We are revealing the title of our new class book on Monday – much excitement from Mrs Timmins
- Wednesday is a free-dress day for Lovell – congratulations
- More singing, gluing, and on Friday – a little dance!
