Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 1st March 2024

Y6 – Friday 1st March 2024 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Please note that parents' evening bookings will be live from 7:00pm on Monday 4th March - Thank You

Looking back:

It was lovely to welcome our pupils back after a restful half term.  We have already begun our new class text for English – “A Story Like The Wind” by Gill Lewis.  Maths has seen us completing our block of learning for “Statistics” and we have moved onto revising, and building upon, our knowledge of area and perimeter.  We welcomed the NSPCC into school on Monday and completed a worthwhile session with them.  It would be so beneficial to chat to your child about this and the message that was delivered.  The children continued to work on collages based upon “The Island”; they have looked at “The Oregon Trail”; and also enjoyed further session for our “My Happy Mind” journey.  Details of a family app to support this work has been issued via email this week – we hope you enjoy looking at this.  Our week was completed with a hockey session for PE and, of course, a lovely catch-up with our buddies.  Here’s to another great week.

Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Seeing our friends again
  • Finding out our new topic in English
  • Working on our collages
  • Buddies
  • Learning how to play hockey
  • Working with the NSPCC

Family discussion questions:

  • What was the NSPCC workshop theme? What can you tell me about this?
  • Who are the eight people in “The Lone Boat at Sea” which is from our new book for English called “A Story Like The Wind” by Gill Lewis. Who is the only non-human passenger?
  • What have you learned about The Oregon Trail?
  • Turn this sentence from the simple present tense, into the present and past progressive, and the present and past perfect verb forms:– “I read the Year 6 webpage.”

Looking forward:

  • We are very much looking forward to how our new story in English will continue and we are moving onto some new areas in maths regarding shape and finding the area of different shapes. We will continue our studies across a range of subjects and we’ll look forward to sharing these with you soon.
  • Booking slots for parents evenings will be live from 7:00pm on Monday 4th March and remain open until 7:00pm on Friday 8th
  • Tuesday afternoon: Year 6 to visit the PTA Mother’s Day Shop
  • Wednesday: Lovely have a free dress day
