Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 8th December 2023

Y6 – Friday 8th December 2023 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

A super week in Year 6 – lots of learning and fun along the way as our lessons continue alongside the build-up to Christmas.  We have completed our writing in the style of a newspaper for English and have grappled (successfully) with fractions.  That’s kept our mornings busy.  Our afternoons have seen us enjoying lessons about mould!  We’re keeping an eye on some different foods in our window sills, and are looking forward (honestly) to seeing what might appear in the next few days!  We’ve collected “10 Fun Facts about Fungi” – see our weekly questions to find out more.  We have enjoyed workouts in PE (whilst singing along to Christmas tunes) and our RE focus with Mrs Riddell was engaging and enlightening.

Our class hamper raffle tickets are going well – lots of lovely “goodies” to win – tickets will be on sale throughout the week – get yours before it’s too late!

Tickets for the junior carol service for Year 6 were issued - one per child - to the pupils on Friday afternoon.  Please note that you must present this ticket at the door for the church service.  Weather permitting, everyone is invited to the performance in the playground - tickets are not required for this.

Letters issued Y6:

Information regarding the junior Carol Service issued on Monday

Fencing Club letter issued Monday

Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • RT - Singing
  • CMc – English writing
  • EA - Multiplying & Dividing Fractions
  • CW – Dividing Fractions
  • NH – Science – setting up our mould experiments

Family discussion questions:

  • Which of the “Top 10n Fun Facts About Fungi” can you remember?
  • What was the first SA Agulhas and which staff member has a personal connection to it? Can you explain to me about this “vehicle”?

Looking forward:

  • We are wrapping up our work on “Shackleton’s Journey” and we will enjoy sharing the facts about our crew members from our homework research last week. There will be assessments on the way over the next two weeks but these are only where we ask the pupils to simply “try their best”.  Our autumn term projects will come to an end in our penultimate week of 2023!
  • The PTA Christmas Shops will be open next week – Year 6 are scheduled to shop on Tuesday afternoon – please can they bring in their money in a named envelope or purse and possibly a carrier bag in which to pop their goodies (and so that nobody at home can peep!) Thank you for supporting this.
