Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 8th March 2024

Y6 – Friday 8th March 2024 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

First - Apologies to pupils who didn't receive a copy of their spellings on Friday - my error.  Don't panic! I'll pass these to you on Monday but they are on the website if you're desperate!

We have enjoyed a really successful week in Year 6 – it has been lovely to see the class busy at work.  We have begun to compose a lovely flashback story for our new writing whilst continuing to enjoy Gill Lewis’ book “A Story Like The Wind”.  Maths has seen us become really good (hopefully) at calculating the area of different 2D shapes.  Our afternoons have included lessons about Native American culture; designing our nightlights; considering the country of Canada for mapwork; learning about light for science; practising hockey skills; and enjoying time with our fab buddies.  We are enjoying our time but it does feel like it’s whizzing past far too quickly.

Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • BHu PE and Hockey
  • IC Planning our story
  • JC Working on finding out about Native American culture
  • NH Find the area of triangles
  • SHA Working on planning our nightlights
  • EB Just playing with my friends – that’s really fun
  • BHe Reading “A Story Like The Wind”
  • TC Buddytime
  • LMM Film Night
  • EA Lunch!

Family discussion questions:

  • What are the formulae for finding the area of rectangles, triangles and parallelograms?
  • Which character are you writing for in your flashback narrative – tell me about them
  • What theme are you designing your nightlight around?
  • Tell me what you have already learned about Native American Culture.

Looking forward:

  • We are looking forward to holding our parents’ meetings next week.
  • Our lessons will continue as normal although we are excited to be holding a science afternoon on Thursday
