Looking back:

The week began with a visit for many of the class to the annual Young Voices concert – what a treat to see so many involved.  Well done, Year 6, we’re proud of you for representing your school so well.  This week, we have enjoyed really getting to grips with algebra in maths, solving equations to find the values of different letters of the alphabet and then finding areas and perimeters following some quite sophisticated calcuations.  We have learned more about The Brothers Grimm and their lives, including how they came to collect and publish their famous fairy tales.  Our afternoons have involved us looking at the journey of The Mississippi River; we have read and discussed Armin Greder’s “The Island”; we enjoyed our D&T project; we have mapped The Great Lakes; and we enjoyed netball in PE, although the rain did force us inside for a short while.

Letters issued Y6:

No specific letters this week

Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • RW – Going to Young Voices
  • EA – Maths
  • MG – Netball in PE
  • NH – D&T

Family discussion questions:

  • Can you explain what the algebraic terms “expression” and “formula” mean and explain the difference between them in terms of the value of x?
  • If you studied “The Mississippi”, how many states does it run through, or border?
  • What can you tell me about The Great Lakes?

Looking forward:

  • It is hard to believe that we are already at the final week of the first half of the spring term – hasn’t the time flown and now, we are almost half way through Year 6!
  • We will be completing our work based around “Hansel and Gretel” and moving from algebra in maths onto statistics. Our American studies will continue as we bring the half term to a close.
