Yr 4 Looking Back and Forth - Friday 15th December

Friday 15th December – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

This week, the children have completed their half termly assessments, to see how they are progressing.  I was really impressed with how they wanted to show, how well them were doing and worked hard.  In maths, we have finished our work on area.  This was a concept that most of the class felt confident with by today.  We have started to write our paragraphs using the Queen of the Falls as a stimulus.  We are up to the part where Annie is about to go onto the water with her barrel.  We also completed our Elf Run today and browsed in the PTA Christmas Shop as well this week.  Busy busy busy!

Questions to ask at home  -

  • How do you calculate area?
  • What was the best thing about the Elf Run?
  • What was the story in Friday’s assembly?
  • How do you calculate area?
  • What is the difference between area and perimeter?

Children’s highlights of the week

  • P.E. Gymnastics with Mrs Murdoch
  • Art in R.E.
  • Writing my first paragraph and Niagara Falls
  • TTRockstars
  • Maths – learning about area and the tests
  • The carol service rehearsals
  • The Elf Run!

Looking forward:

This next week, there are the carol services to look forward to (please remember your ticket).

We will be drawing the Hamper raffle tickets on Monday afternoon.

There is a Pantomime on Wednesday (OH no there isn’t!  He’s behind you!).

We are working hard to get our marble jar treat in the last week – You can do it Year 4!

Homework in Year 4

Maths – pink sheet

English – GAPS mat and Homophones

Reading – daily at least 15 mins – remember to take the Accelerated Reader Quizzes

Rockstars – as much as possible 10 mins daily is ideal – at least once a week for 20 mins

Spellings  – Mrs Riddell – Please learn them for the test on Wednesday.  It is better to look at them for 5 minutes each day than try to learn them all in one night.  The children remember them better learnt over the week.

Could the children please complete their homework in pencil or blue/black pen not felt tip.

Timestables – Not for this week – these will resume after Christmas
