Y1 Friday 18th January  2019 – Looking Back & Forth

Looking back:

This week, our class has been enjoying writing information about autumn and winter. We explored non-fiction books and looked at photographs of the seasons to help us. We've continued to look at place value in maths this next week, particularly understanding the value of the two digits and solving problems related to this.

In Science, we have observed the movement of the sun by drawing around our shadows on the playground and have understood why daylight hours are longer in summer than winter.

Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Writing our information texts about autumn and winter.
  • Creating a pictogram to show the daylight hours in each season.
  • Solving problems related to finding more and less than two digit numbers.
  • Securing our knowledge of maths language related to more than, less than and equal to.

Family discussion questions:

  • Which seasons are the most similar to one another? Why?
  • Can you give me two facts about autumn and winter?
  • Can you count in 10s?

Looking forward:

Next week, we will be continuing to learn about the seasons in our topic lessons. We will be using our knowledge of place value to help us when adding one and two digit numbers together and solving problems.
