Y1 Friday 28th April 2023– Looking Back & Forth

Looking back: 

In English we have written letters to Hermelin.

In Maths we have been counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

In Science we have identified and named common garden plants and flowers.

In Geography we have discussed where we live and what we can see in our local area from our house.

In History we have written facts about Neil Armstrong.

Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:

√ Planning a letter to Hermelin.

√ Reading and writing words with ‘ie’ saying ‘ee’ as in chief and ‘ea’ saying ‘e’ as in ready.

√ Writing a letter to Hermelin.

√ Counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

√ Thinking about where we live and what we can see from our house.

√ Naming and identifying common garden plants and flowers.

√ Reading information about Neil Armstrong’s life before writing facts about him.

√ Learning to bowl and catch as part of cricket in PE.

√ Learning about worship and shabbat Judaism in RE.

√ Clapping to the beat of a song in Music.

Family discussion questions:

  • What plants have you got in your garden?
  • If you have 3 groups of 2 counters how many do you have? 3 groups of 10? 3 groups of 5?
  • What is the purpose of a letter?

Looking forward:

In English we will use the book ‘Where the Wild things are’ to inspire our portal narrative writing unit.

In Maths we will be recognising and adding equal groups through repeated addition and making arrays to show ‘lots of’.

In Science we will dissecting parts of a flower to help us when naming their parts and in Geography we will be making aerial maps of our classroom using Lego.

Reminders:

 

  • Thursday 4th May- Coronation Celebration- dress as royalty or in red, white and blue for this day! Special picnic lunch to celebrate.

 

  • Our 14 day Reading Challenge has started again, so please write each time your child reads so they can earn 10 house points for their 14 consecutive reads. I will change books overnight on a Thursday

 

  • Homework is spellings to learn and phonics word sorting based on our learning from this week. This will be marked together so any misconceptions can be address. Please complete this in pencil.

 

  • PE this half term is Friday- please wear PE kits on this day.
