Y3. w.e 8.3.19 Looking Back & Forth

Friday 8th March 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 3

Looking back:

Over the last week, in maths we have begun learning how to complete division calculations by chunking up on number lines, it has been tricky but we are improving and making progress with this new method!   In English our Roman Life report writing is coming on well, we are including organised paragraphs as well as fact boxes and diagrams.  The Roman topic work has continued by creating sales brochures for wealthy Roman homes, they really did have some modern features.

Year 3 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • I liked World Book Day WBD) because we got to share some of our favourite books with our friends.
  • I liked making the book spines for WBD as we took our time, concentrated and made them beautiful.
  • PE was good because we were throwing the ball to each other and trying to tag each other.
  • I enjoyed watching the Boudicca clips as they were really funny (they were from Horrible Histories).
  • I loved writing our Roman Life reports this week as it helped me learn even more about the Romans … I just loved it!

Family discussion questions:

  • If we were answering the question 63 ÷ 5 what numbers would we place on the number line? What chunks would you bounce up in?
  • Can you give at least 4 features you would expect to find in a wealthy Roman’s home?  How were these homes different from the Celtic homes?  What has allowed archaeologists to find out about the history of Roman homes?

Looking forward:
We will complete our division learning and use our new skills to answer word problems.  English will see our Roman Life reports being finished and published this week.  And in preparation for our upcoming Year 3 trip to Chester and the Grosvenor Museum, we will investigate some of the tasty and some of the not so tasty Roman foods ….. eurgh!
