Y4 Looking Back and Forth Friday 19th May 2023

Friday 19th May– Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

This week, the children had swimming sessions in the pool.  The pool is lovely and warm, which seemed to go down very well with the class.  Year 4  have begun to write their twisted narratives and it has been great to hear that some pupils have talked about them at home.   We have worked on speech, which is a tricky concept to get your head around, particularly punctuating it!  We are persevering and having another homework to help to consolidate it too.   The class have continued to work on fractions, learning to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator.

The class loved the session on Thursday sewing their money wallets.  It was great to see parents and grand parents supporting the children with this project.

Questions to ask at home  -

  • What is a numerator?
  • What is a denominator?
  • What is reported speech?
  • What is direct speech?
  • What is a database?

Children’s highlights of the week

  • Creating my twisted narrative
  • Spelling test
  • Swimming
  • Sewing our wallets
  • Receiving a special achievement award
  • Maths with Mrs Cooper
  • Band
  • Reading the Lost Happy Ending story

Looking forward:

This week, the class will edit and publish their twisted narratives.  They will continue to access the pool.  On Thursday and Friday the class will have their water safety sessions with the swimming coaches.

In the afternoons,  the children will; continue their sewing on Thursday, use close observational drawing with critters from the local environment (I think the drawing club are going to love this!), research a European country and explore humanism and the Golden Rule .

Homework in Year 4

Rockstars – as much as possible 10 mins daily is ideal – at least once a week for 20 mins
