Y5 11.11.22 Weekly Update

Friday 11th November 2022 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

The children have done some lovely work for Remembrance today. We looked at a little bit of the history behind the symbol of the poppy, we then used the book ‘Where the Poppies Now Grow’ as inspiration for our own poetry.

Each day over the past couple of weeks we have been enjoying the children’s presentations about their hobby/interest. These have been wonderful to listen to – so interesting and the children have delivered the presentations with such confidence and enthusiasm.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We really enjoyed learning about rivers near our twin school.
  • It was interesting to explore why we have the seasons in our science lesson.
  • It was interesting to learn about Remembrance and the reasons why people wear poppies.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children if they can remember the names of the rivers near Elizabethfontein School.
  • Can the children tell you why we have day and night, and the seasons?

Looking forward:

Next week, we start a new maths topic exploring strategies for multiplication and division.

We also start a new science topic – ‘Forces’. Our first lesson will be a little recap of what gravity is.

In English, we continue our work based on the lovely book, ‘FArTHER’. The children will be looking a how we use figurative language in our writing for impact.

Parents evening appointsment go live on Monday at 7pm. They will be active until Thursday, 7pm. Please let me know if more than one appointment is required for your child.

Have a great weekend!
