Y5 Weekly Update 15.9.23

Friday 15th September 2023 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a great week in Year 5! In Geography, the children produced a wonderful piece of work about the journey of a river, using a collage to show the different stages. In science, the children learned about the planets, and researched one planet in depth. In English, we continue to use the fantastic book, ‘Where Once We Stood’ – the children have explored some of the vocabulary and created a character description of Neil Armstrong.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed our first lesson in PE.
  • We liked learning about Hinduism in RE.
  • We really enjoyed learning about the planets.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children talk you through the journey of a river?
  • What did the children learn about the planet they researched?

Looking forward:

Next week, we will be continuing number and place value work in maths, comparing large numbers and rounding.

We have a willow artist in school on Monday, and we will be spending the morning creating a sculpture!

In our geography work, the children will be looking at estuaries, and creating an information booklet about what they have learned. In science, we will be studying the work of Copernicus and Galileo.

Our English work continues to be based on ‘Where Once We Stood’ and the Moon landings.

Enjoy the weekend!
