Y5 Weekly Update 21.4.23

Friday 21st April 2023 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a brilliant first week of the summer term! We had our enjoyable residential to Burwardsley before the Easter break. It was very wet and muddy but the children were amazing. They were so well behaved, so well mannered and an absolute pleasure to take.

This week we had done a little bit of follow up work to the residential, and have now finished our Burwardsley geography topic. In English, we started a unit of work based on the beautiful text, ‘The Lost Book of Adventure’. In maths, we have undertaken a little unit of work focused on decimals.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed presenting work about Burwardsley.
  • We enjoyed exploring depictions of ‘salvation’ in religious artwork.
  • We found learning about polllination interesting in our science lesson.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children tell you the male and female parts of a flower?
  • What have the children learned so far about survival from ‘The Book of Lost Adventure’?

Looking forward:

Next week, we will continue building up our English skills so that we are ready to write our own survival story.

In maths, we will continue looking at decimals – exploring adding and subtracting strategies.

In geography, we are starting a new topic based on South America. We will begin by looking at the countries of this continent and the physical and human features.

Enjoy the weekend!
