Y5 Weekly Update 22.9.23

Friday 22nd September 2023 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

The children have worked so hard this week! On Monday, we had a whole morning of willow weaving, creating a sculpture for the exhibition. The children were really good at this and worked brilliantly on something that was quite difficult to do! In geography, we have created an information booklet about estuaries and the wildlife you might find. In English, the children have continued to explore the book, ‘Where Once We Stood’

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed the willow weaving.
  • We liked learning about Copernicus and Galileo.
  • We enjoyed the estuary work.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children remember what Copernicus and Galileo discovered?
  • Can the children tell you about some of the estuary wildlife they researched?

Looking forward:

Next week, the children will be planning their own story, based on an exploration into space.

In maths, we will complete our place value topic looking at rounding, negative numbers and Roman Numerals.

We have an interesting science lesson exploring the life of the inspirational scientist, Maggie Aderin-Pocock.

We will also need to start gearing up to producing some exhibition work!

Don't forget it's our Butterfly Day on Thursday - see the newsletter for more details.

Enjoy the weekend!
