Y5 Weekly Update 29.9.23

Friday 29th September 2023 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a great week in Year 5. The children have worked so hard and produced some great work. Butterfly Day was a reflective, but uplifting day. The children spent some time creating some lovely butterfly pictures using graphics on the laptops in the afternoon.

In geography, the children finished creating some brilliant information booklets about estuary wildlife. They then explored how rivers are used and the environmental impact of this. In science, the children researched the inspirational scientist, Maggie Aderin-Pocock.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We really enjoyed the ICT butterflies we created with Mrs Cooper.
  • We are enjoying doing some textiles work based on Georgia O’Keefe.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children remember some of Maggie Aderin-Pocock’s achievements?
  • Can the children tell you what Dharma means in Hinduism?

Looking forward:

Next week, the children will be finishing writing their own story, based on an exploration into space using some of the writing techniques we have been exploring over the last few weeks.

In maths, we are moving on to addition and subtraction strategies.

We are really stepping up our exhibition work next week. The children will be drawing estuary birds and writing a recount based on the journey of a river!

Enjoy the weekend!
