Year 2 - Looking Back and Forth Friday 22nd September 2023

Y2 Friday 22nd September 2023– Looking Back & Forth

Looking back:

What an exciting week we have had with our caterpillars! The adults have been very impressed with how sensibly you have treated the caterpillars during a delicate stage.

In Maths, we have looked at the various ways we can partition numbers.

We have looked at different types of instructions in English and started to discuss the features.

Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • English- “ I like English because we learnt about different instructions.2
  • English- “I have enjoyed learning about the Bog Baby.2
  • Maths- “ I liked using tens and ones.”
  • PE- “I liked PE because we played stuck in the mud to warm up.”
  • Science- “It was exciting when we looked at the caterpillars.”
  • PE –“It was exciting playing stuck in the mud,”

Family discussion questions:

  • Look for examples of instructions that you use this week-they might be recipes, instructions to make something etc. what do the children notice?
  • Discuss what your child noticed about their caterpillar this week.
  • Talk about why its important to recycle. Please look for any interesting plastic, (eg sweet wrappers) or foil (eg milk bottle tops) that you have in the house and bring them to school for our Exhibition work. (Only clean ones please!)

Looking forward:

  • We will see our caterpillars continue to grow
  • Exhibition work- starting to create our amazing designs
  • Next week we will use a number line to count in 10s.

Reminders

SHOW AND TELL UPDATE

We will be using the following system for Show and Tell from next week. We have collected a list of children who have something they would like to share. We will work through this list 3 children at a time and those children will need to be ready to present on Wednesday of each week We will let you know on the Friday before which children are presenting so children have time to get ready for the following Wednesday.

PE will be on Fridays. Please ensure school PE kit is worn.

Reading books will be changed on Mondays. The reading folder is needed in school every day. Thank you.

Reading books should be brought into school every day. Children’s books will be changed weekly.

Please continue to read every night as this underpins so much learning in Year 2. For every consecutive 14 days of reading the children will receive 10 house points and see their face on the ‘Reading Challenge Wall of Fame’. (We should have our first children on the wall of frame this week! ) Please record this in reading diaries so I can track their progress

Thanks for your support
