Year 2 Looking Back and Forward 28th April

Friday 5th May 2023 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 2

Looking back:

What a busy week it has been! The children have been working hard at listening to and following instructions first time. Well done Year 2. In English we discovered a new book and started to enjoy and explore the themes. The children practised all their maths skills to make sure they could still remember all their methods. We have set up an experiment in Science, and will discover what is the most important factor in seed germination. We started to learn about Florence Nightingale and the children were interested to know that she invented modern nursing. As always there was much more including RE, PE, French, phonics and reading work. I hope you enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend – the last two weeks have flown by.

Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Trying to decide what makes a seed germinate
  • My Happy Mind
  • The Bear and the Piano
  • Fractions challenges
  • PE

Family discussion/questions:

Can you tell your parents about the story we are reading for English?

What is the lifecycle of a plant?

Looking forward:

  • Reading books will be changed on Tuesday next week due to the Bank Holiday. The reading folder is needed in school every day. Thank you.
  • This term PE will be on TUESDAY. School PE kits should be worn.
  • The Bear and the Piano
  • Practising all reading comprehension skills
  • Science – Will the bean seeds germinate?
  • History – Florence Nightingale and hospitals
  • We are celebrating the coronation of King Charles III on Thursday 4th. There will be a picnic lunch and the children will spend the afternoon learning about the importance of the coronation and enjoying related craft. The children can wear red, white and blue clothing – full details in this week’s newsletter.
