Year 3 Looking Back and Forth 25/4/25

Friday 25th April 2025 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 3

Looking back:

We have had a great first week back this week and everyone has returned with smiling faces which has been lovely to see – we’ve even had a little sunshine too…in between the overcast skies so that’s great too! We got busy straight away this week by beginning our new topic of The Romans in History. We began our five weeks of cricket in PE too this week, where we worked on bowling using the correct arm action and accuracy of aim. Our new English book has really grabbed our attention this week too and we are coming to terms with the unexpected ending still – poor Magpie and Fawn. We have learned so many new words to add to our vocabulary collection which will help our writing to become even more sophisticated as we move forward with fable writing. Maths has been great this week as we have got to grips with numerators and denominators and which is which. In arithmetic, we played a blinder with our methods and smashed our times tables out of the water! Science was fascinating as we began our experiment with plants. We finished our week off by working on our first play script all about the ‘Working Children’ of Victorian times – our dramatic skills are beginning to show – well done Class Three!

Year 3 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Playing on the field
  • Cricket with Mrs Murdoch
  • Being back with our friends
  • Our Science experiments all about plants!
  • Doing a fantastic job of vocabulary in English
  • Everything!

Family discussion questions:

Ask your children…

  • What is a unit fraction?
  • What is our rhyme to remember which fractions are bigger pieces?
  • What does democracy mean?

Looking forward:

Next week, we will be making our very first steps towards our maypole routines – hold onto your hats kids!!! Well…your ribbons actually!!! We will be beginning to plan for and write our fable narrative in English, continuing to learn more about fractions in Maths, finding out how Rome was founded in History, beginning our Geography topic of volcanoes and earthquakes, continuing with our playscripts based on working children, more Science experiments, looking into forgiveness in RE and cricket in PE ~ like another busy week!
