Y1 Friday 25th January  2019 – Looking Back & Forth

Looking back:

This week, our class has been enjoying writing information about summer. We have looked at the changes that occur to trees through the seasons and the variations in weather. We've continued to look at place value in maths this next week, particularly looking at comparing and sequencing numbers.

In Art, we have looked at the work of Kandinsky and used his work to help us with simple drawings and practised our colouring skills.

Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Drawing and colouring inspired by Kandinsky.
  • Writing about summer and the changes to trees throughout the seasons.
  • Creating shadows in Science.
  • Consolidating our place value knowledge through solving problems.

Family discussion questions:

  • Why do we have seasons? (think about the sun and earth)
  • Can you write a question about the seasons?
  • How many tens and ones are in 43? Is this the same as 34? Why not?

Looking forward:

Next week, we will be using our knowledge of place value to find number bonds and partitioning two digit numbers to help us when adding. In English, we will be editing and publishing our winter and summer information writing.
