Friday 11th January 2018 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5

Friday 11th January 2018 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5

Looking back:

The children have had a great first week back. We started a new topic, ‘Rivers’, and explored the journey of a river from source to sea. The children have also studied two classic narrative poems, ‘The Lion and Albert’ and ‘Mrs Malone’ and produced some fantastic poems themselves.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed studying the poems, ‘The Lion and Albert’ and ‘Mrs Malone’.
  • We enjoyed creating the journey of a river collage.
  • We liked the challenge of the area and perimeter work.

Family discussion questions:

Ask your children…

  • what they learned about rivers this week.
  • to tell you how to calculate area and perimeter.

Looking forward:

Next week we will be beginning a three week writing topic based on a classic story from the past. In maths, we will be ordering and then adding fractions. In our topic work we will be researching some famous British rivers.
