Looking Back and Forth 3th May 2024

Y2 Friday 3rd May 2024– Looking Back & Forth

Looking back:  This week we have started writing persuasive letters explaining why we think banning the dark is a terrible idea. In maths, we have been identifying and finding ¾ of shapes and amounts. In science, we have set up a test to identify what seeds need to germinate.

Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • I liked writing my letter to the King.
  • I enjoyed practising my handwriting
  • I enjoyed science because we planted seeds.
  • I liked maths because I liked doing halves and quarters
  • I liked tennis because it was fun
  • I liked being creative at playtime
  • I enjoyed doing handwriting- I like the curly caterpillar family
  • I liked PE because we hit the ball with a racket
  • I liked learning about Florence Nightingale and how she cleaned the hospitals X3
  • I liked PE – I liked hitting the ball
  • I enjoyed science because I want to find out what seeds need to germinate x2

Family discussion questions:

We will be learning about time next week.  Please talk to your child about time- how many clocks do you have? Are the clocks the same or different? How long do activities take to do?  What units of time do you know?

Looking forward:

Next week we will start our learning about time and learn about the experiences of Mary Seacole. We will also  be observing out seeds to see if any have germinated.

PE is on Tuesdays! Please ensure school PE kit is worn.

Reading books are changed on Mondays. The reading folder is needed in school every day. Thank you.

Reading books should be brought into school every day. Children’s books will be changed weekly.

Please continue to read every night as this underpins so much learning in Year 2. For every consecutive 14 days of reading the children will receive 10 house points and see their face on the ‘Reading Challenge Wall of Fame’. Well done to the child who completed the challenge for the 10th time this week.  Please record when you read with your child in their reading diaries so we can track their progress and see who has completed the challenge this term!

Enjoy the long weekend,

Mr Warhurst
