Looking Back & Forth 1.5.26

We have had another lovely sunny week in Year One!

Looking back:

  • We designed our own 'Wild Things' and wrote character descriptions about them in English.
  • We finished our mass and volume unit in maths.
  • We learnt two new sounds: ie (ee) and ea (e)

Highlights:

  • We enjoyed using soft pastels, oil pastels and charcoal to draw curved lines in art.
  • We ordered the events of the first moon landing in history.
  • We learnt about safaris in science and discussed what we will need to take on our own mini safari.
  • We have loved playing on the field in the sunshine!

Looking forward:

  • We will start our new maths unit: Multiplication and division. We will learn to count in 2s, 5s, and 10s.
  • We will analyse our model text in English to give us ideas for our own reports.
  • We will focus on curved lines again to create a realistic moon drawing.
  • We will go on a safari in our school field to look for invertebrates.

Questions to ask at home:

  • Can you read these words? shield, field, bread, head.
  • What is an invertebrate?
  • What is the difference between volume and capacity?
  • What did Neil Armstrong do on the moon?
