Looking Back & Forth 6.11.26

We have had a great first week back in Year 1.

Looking back:

• We started learning our phase 5 phonics sounds: ay (ai)
• We wrote sentences in the characters of Rapunzel and The Witch.
• We learnt to understand part-whole models and write addition sentences to match. 

Highlights:

• We enjoyed designing our own moving mechanisms in DT.
• We started our new science topic: Celebrations. We discussed what a celebration is and learnt all about Hanukah and Chinese New Year.
• We have had fun buying poppies and raising money for the Royal British Legion.

Looking forward:

• We will learn more phase 5 sounds: oy (oi) and ie (igh)
• We will write character descriptions of Rapunzel and The Witch using adjectives.
• In maths we will look at number bonds within 10.
• In science we will look at sources of light.
• We will be starting our new history topic: Tremendous Toys - we will disucss the features of toys from the present.
• We will finish our DT unit and evaluate our moving mechanisms.
