Y1 Looking Back & Forth 9.1.26

Dear parents and carers,

We have had an amazing first week back in year 1!

Looking back

We have started learning our phase 5 phonics sounds! This week we focused on 'oy' and 'ay.'

We have started to look at numbers from 10-20, extending our place value knowledge.

We have started our new writing unit 'Major Glad, Major Dizzy' and the children have written some great adjectives to describe the toys in the story.

Highlights

  • Using paint to mix primary colours.
  • Learning about polar places and the animals that live there.
  • Bringing in our favourite toys and discussing the similiarities and differences between them.
  • Relaxing with a book in our new reading corner!

Discussion questions at home

  • Which animals live in the polar regions?
  • How many tens and ones are in the number 14?
  • What colour is made when you mix red and blue?

Looking forward

Next week we will start to write sentences to describe the toys in writing. We will continue to look at the teen numbers in maths and explore number lines to 20.  We will learn about toys from the past in history and explore how animals are adapted to their habitats in science.

I have had a lovely first week getting to know all the children, thank you for being so welcoming and I look forward to getting to know you all more in the coming weeks.

Miss Wood.
