Reception class update 6th February 2026

In Reception this week we have learnt about the sense of smell. On Thursday we had a range of things to smell and see which ones we likes and did not like. The class smelt a bit like a mixture of a curry pizza restaurant. Many scrunched up noses at garlic and vinegar!

The children on the whole are making good progress with phonics and remembering the sounds we have taught them. They are also trying hard to apply them to their reading and writing. I have updated all the pots. If you do not have time to read the books please focus only on the words and sounds in their pots. I would like them all to be secure with phase 2 and 3 tricky words before they go into Year 1. (Phase 2: I, go, to, no, the, into) and (Phase 3: we, she, he, me be, my, was, are, they, all, you).

In maths we focussed on problem solving using addition, subtraction and sharing. Our writing was finishing off their ideas about how to catch a wolf.

Today in PE they did the spring dance - included butterfly, bee and ladybird movement to the music of the song. In music we got the instruments out again and added triangles to our repertoire.
