Reception class update Friday 13th March 2026
Happy Mother's Day for Sunday and ask your child for the card they made for you at school. We hope that you find the peg useful to peg up special things.
This week we heard the story of The Extraordinary Gardener and how one seed started a big change. On Monday afternoon the children each planted some daffodil bulbs in pots and we are monitoring their growth.
In writing we are focusing on finger spacing and correct letter formation in simple sentences. A simple sentence may be: "He is on a box." or "I go to the shop." In phonics the focus is to get the children to writing their phase 2 and some phase 3 tricky words confidently without having to think of how to spell them. So we are doing lots of repetiton in class and you can get them to do the same using the words in their pots. Phase 2 words are: I, go, to, no, the. Phase 3 words are: me, she, he, be, we, my, they, are, all, you, was, here. Please read and go over the words and sounds with your child as least 4 times a week. This will help to give them confidence and fluency in reading and writing.
In Maths we have worked on number formation, addition and subtraction. The children also enjoyed pattern work with the beads.
PE was all about tennis and they used balloons instead of balls and Mrs Murdock was pleased with their progress and improvement.
