Reception class update Week of 7 September

Hello all

The children have settled in so well and staff were commenting on their good behaviour and confidence. I have never had a Reception class attend a whole school assembly in their first few weeks of school but on Friday afternoon most of the children went in and behaved beautifully with Miss Atkins giving them high praise. This is a great start for the year.

This week we have been learning more of the daily routines and we are working on tyding up and putting toys back carefully not throwing things into baskets and boxes. I have to remind them that when they are called to come inside not to just fling a toy down and run like mad.

One thing to take note is that in the first half term we have lots of bumps and scrapes. This is quite normal in my experience as they navigate the new playground. I am constantly telling them not to run in class and to look out for others as they chase around at school.

Each child has painted a picture of themselves and made their name cards using magneting letters and lots of glitter. These will go up on display in the class soon and please do come in have a look.

I have not spoken to the children yet about the other display I would like them to contribute too and that is "Our Favourite Book" board. If you could please send in a book that they love - I will make a copy of the cover to put up on our display. I am also hoping to read a few to them.

Our Exhibition topic is Journeys and I have chosen the book Rosie's walk as our learning tool. I will introduce this to them soon. The book has so many aspects to it and I am wondering if anyone has any knowledge of bees and bee keeping or have a few hens we could somehow have them in for the day (I shall rig up a cage of sort). And if anyone is willing to come and bake with the children please let me know.

I am aware that some parents missed the meeting on Monday and I would like to set up another meeting if required. I know that the important dates were put on the Whatsapp group which I think it most useful. Please email if you would like another meeting set up.
