Reception class weekly update Friday 23rd January
This week we have made models. Our theme was about the sense of touch and a good time to use our hands to create something special. I was pleased with their creativity as they looked for different box shapes and had some really super ideas. We didn't get them all finished and there are still 4 children to make theirs on Monday. It is lovely to see them so proud and pleased with their creations although I know some of them have been bigger than expected.
The children did an activity around sorting different textures this gave them the opportunity to discuss and sort.
In maths we have looked at problem solving and matched number to objects too.
This week we have written simple sentences in phonics and we are learning to write the phase 2 words to build up fluency. The simple sentences are for example: "I go to the shop" or "I can go on the ship".
In RE on Thursday we heard the story of the lost sheep and they have an activity sheet in their bag so hopefully they can retell you the story.
On Tuesday Oliver's mum came in and introduced yoga to the class using the loveliest story about a rabbit. I must say they loved the whole experience. We hope to make this a weekly occasion.
On Friday we did music in the Sunshine Room and worked on percussion using lots of instruments.
The week ended off with the disco and it was great to see the Infants dancing their socks off not to mention the Reception teacher enjoying a bop too.
Next week we are learning about the sense of taste.
