Reception class weekly update week ending 16th October

The excitement of the exhibition is growing and the children have been learning the song for the two performances. They have also been learning the basic steps to a dance choreographed by the dance teacher at our twin school Elizabethfontein in South Africa.

The children have helped to put the finishing touches to the exhibits and we look forward to showing them to you. Just a reminder that we will perform on both Wednesday and Thursday at 2:45pm.

This week we have learnt a few more sounds. As you know we also sent books out for sharing. Please send these back on Thursday so I can give out new books.

As part of the book Rosie's Walk we learnt about the life cycle of a bee. The children did a simple activity in their Knowledge and Understanding books where they had to remember the life cycle. Egg (like a grain of rice), lavae (little worm), pupa and bee. We talked about the pupa being encased in a little honeycomb box sealed with a wax lid which the bee nibbles to get out when it is ready.

In maths we have heard the stories of numbers 5 (Frisky 5 the kangaroo), 6 (snappy 6 the crocodile) and 7 (spotty 7 the giraffe).

This coming week we are pond dipping and Sam Gower is coming to bake bread with the children. Please let me know if your child should not taste the homemade bread and the honey. I have checked the allergy list but I may have missed something and it would be good to know beforehand.
