Y3 w.e. 3.5.19 Looking Back & Forth

Friday 3rd May 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 3

Looking back:

Year 3 have worked on data handling in maths this week, with a focus on tally charts and pictograms as well as beginning their learning about 3D shapes.  In English we have begun creative writing about imaginary worlds!  As part of our topic we have considered how to create our own packing for pizzas in preparation for Roman Day as well as made 3D volcanoes ready for exploding next week!

Year 3 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • I enjoyed learning about Pompeii, it was totally new learning and I liked watching the clips as well as how the volcano exploded over time.
  • Making the volcano was fun, we made the structure with balls of newspaper, I worked in a good team, we worked together really well.
  • I enjoyed PE this week because we were improving our running and jogging to learn about pace.  It will help me with Sports Day.
  • I liked English this week, the ‘Inspiration’ was amazing, as the apple picture for the imaginary world was brilliantly artistic and designed well. I think my descriptions were quite good too.
  • I enjoyed maths and learning more about 3D shapes, I feel more confident now, it all came back to me!
  • DT and the packaging for pizzas was good.
  • Swimming was fun because we got to improve our breaststroke and front crawl arms.

Family discussion questions:

  • How many faces does a cuboid have?  What about a cone? True or false: a square based pyramid has the same number of edges as a triangular prism. Explain.
  • Think of an adjective to describe a part of the imaginary world picture.
  • What information would you expect to see on a piece of food packaging?

Looking forward:
Next week we will be writing about imaginary worlds!  Maths lesson will see us learning about 3D shape properties in more detail and the afternoons will have topic work including pizza box making and decorating.  Remember Roman Day on Friday, wear a costume, bring in your pizza toppings and look forward to a busy Roman inspired day!
