Y1 Friday 16th May 2025– Looking Back & Forth
Looking back:
Another super week in Year 1!
In English, we are continuing to use the book ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ to inspire our work. We have highlighted features of the text and completed a plan for our own ‘portal narrative’ story.
In Maths, we have made added together and made equal groups by grouping.
In D&T, we have made sandwiches following our design then evaluated them based on what we liked and what we would change.
In Science, we went bird spotting in our school grounds.
Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:
√ Making equal groups by grouping counters.
√ Looking for British Birds in our school grounds.
√ Identifying features of the model ‘portal narrative’.
√ Making sandwiches based on our designs- using skills such as, cutting, spreading, chopping and grating.
√ Evaluating our sandwiches, after we ate them, to decide what we liked and what we would change about them.
√ Running races and throwing the javelin in PE ready for Sports Day.
√ Sang and played percussion instruments to the beat in Music.
√ Learning about Jewish traditions including Shabbat in RE.
√ Continuing to cut circles of different sizes as part of our Kandinsky inspired artwork.
Family discussion questions:
- What birds can you spot in your garden or on a walk?
- Can you correct my spellings? ‘lighk’, ‘sed’ and ‘peeple’
- Can you make equal groups out of 12? How can you do this?
Looking forward:
Next week we will plan our portal narrative story.
In Maths we will make groups through sharing before consolidating our learning of multiplication and division.
In Science we will make a pictogram based on birds spotted and consolidate our learning by completing a quiz.
In Art we will construct our Kandinsky inspired artwork.
- Our 14 day Reading Challenge has started again, so please write each time your child reads so they can earn 10 house points for their 14 consecutive reads. I will change books overnight on a Thursday
- Homework is reading real and fake words. Please tick those you read correctly and those you find tricky, please keep reading them.
- PE this half term is Friday- please wear PE kits on this day.
If you have any questions please ask.
Thanks again for your continued support.
Kind regards and take care
