Y1 Friday 19th May 2023– Looking Back & Forth

Looking back: 

Another super week in Year 1 !

In English we are continuing to use the book ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ to inspire our work. We have sequenced the story, highlighted features of the text and completed a plan for our own ‘portal narrative’ story.

In Maths we have made equal groups by grouping and sharing

In Geography we have identified human and physical features in our school grounds.

In Science we have found and named trees based on their leaves, as well as naming the different parts trees have.

In History we have finished our Moon Landing fact file.

Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:

√ Making equal groups by grouping and sharing counters.

√ Sequencing the story of ‘Where the Wild Things are’ in order with pictures from the book.

√ Identifying features of the model ‘portal narrative’.

√ Planning our ‘portal narrative’ story.

√ Identifying parts of a tree.

√ Finding and naming trees in our school ground by looking at their leaves.

√ Identifying human and physical features in our school grounds.

√ Rolling balls in cricket in PE.

√ Playing percussion instruments in Music.

√ Learning about Jewish traditions in RE.

Family discussion questions:

  • What trees can you see in your garden or on a walk?
  • Can you correct my spellings? ‘lighk’, ‘sed’ and ‘peeple’
  • Can you make equal groups out of 12? How can you do this?

Looking forward:

Next week we will write our portal narrative story.

In Maths consolidate our learning of multiplication and division.

In D and T we will be making our sandwiches with some ingredients from plants and evaluating them.

Reminders:

  • Please return your permission slip for our MOSI trip on Friday 9th June and your village walk permission slip for our village walk on Tuesday 27th June (pm)- we still need volunteers for this please!

 

  • Our 14 day Reading Challenge has started again, so please write each time your child reads so they can earn 10 house points for their 14 consecutive reads. I will change books overnight on a Thursday

 

  • Homework is spellings to learn and phonics word sorting based on our learning from this week. This will be marked together so any misconceptions can be address. Please complete this in pencil.

 

  • PE this half term is Friday- please wear PE kits on this day.
