Y1 Friday 21st November 2025– Looking Back & Forth
Looking back:
We have had a great week in Year 1!
In Maths we have used tens frames and part whole models to secure our learning of number bonds to 10 and answered problem solving and reasoning questions related to this.
In Geography we have identified the human and physical features of a coastline and city.
In Science we have observed the weather across the week.
Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:
√ Using lots of practical equipment to find pairs to 10.
√ Learning to find number bonds to 10 in lots of different ways.
√ Identifying human and physical features of a coastline and a city.
√ Practising songs for our Christmas performance.
√ Saying numbers to 20 in French.
√ Completing a weather diary showing what we have observed this week.
√ Throwing aiming at a target in PE.
√ Learning about when Angel Gabriel visited in RE.
Family discussion questions:
- What will you see in a city that you would not see in a village?
- Thinking about number bonds to 10. What pairs with 2? With 7? With 0?
- What has the weather been like this week? How is it different to summer?
Looking forward:
Next week we will plan and write a retell of the story of Rapunzel.
In Maths we will continue to look at concepts related to addition and begin to look at subtraction.
In Geography we will look at human and physical features found in a village and town. In Science we will test materials to see which makes the best sounds.
Reminders
I’ve sent home a laminated Phase 3 sound mat for the children to use. They can look at it and practise saying the sounds. If your child finds it tricky to spot sounds in the words they are reading or writing, the sound mat can be used as a helpful reference. It’s there to support them with any reading or writing they do at home.
Book change on Thursday.
Please continue to read every night and practise the sound cards. If this could be recorded in reading diaries so I can track progress for our 14 day Reading Challenge. I am so impressed with how many children have achieved the Reading Challenge so far.
