Y1 Friday 25th April 2025– Looking Back & Forth
Looking back:
I hope you all had a wonderful Easter break.
In English and History, we have written facts about the Moon Landing and facts about Neil Armstrong.
In Maths we have continued to look at weight and mass before beginning to look at volume and capacity, with lots of water exploration.
In Geography we have discussed what we know and what we want to find out about in our topic in this half term.
In PHSE we have used the book Max the Champion to discuss differences in how we use our bodies, the disabilities some people have and what they can use to help them. We reflected on our talents and we thought about what we are a ‘champion’ at!
Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:
√ Writing facts about the Moon Landing and Neil Armstrong.
√ Using the balances when learning about mass.
√ Learning about capacity and volume through the language of full and empty, exploring different sized containers and lots of water.
√ Deciding what we liked and disliked about Kandinsky paintings in Art.
√ Colouring within the lines, using hot and cold colours, in Art.
√ Thinking about what we know about Goostrey and what we want to find out.
√ Listening to the story of ‘Max the champion’ and realising what we are a ‘champion’ at.
√ Bowling a ball. Overarm, into a hoop during Cricket in PE.
Family discussion questions:
- What are the 3 sounds that have the grapheme ‘ch’?
- Does a tall thin glass hold more water than a short wide glass? How can you check?
- After looking at ‘Max the champion’ can you decide what some one in your house is a ‘champion’ at and why?
Looking forward:
In English and Science we will learn about British Birds and write facts about them.
In Maths we will finish our capacity unit before beginning our multiplication and division unit by counting 2s, 5s and 10s.
In Geography we will be looking at an aerial view map and using this to make Lego aerial view maps of our classroom
Reminders:
- Please continue to encourage your children to work through the Phonics activity booklet- this will help to reinforce their Phonics learning.
- Our 14 day Reading Challenge has started again, so please write each time your child reads so they can earn 10 house points for their 14 consecutive reads. I will change books overnight on a Thursday
- PE this half term is Friday- please wear PE kits on this day.
If you have any questions please ask.
Thanks again for your continued support.
Kind regards and take care
