Y1 Friday 2nd May 2025– Looking Back & Forth

Looking back:

In English and Science, we have written facts about British Birds.

In Maths we have been counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

In Geography we have learnt about aerial view maps and used this information to help us to make aerial view plan of our classroom using Lego. We used a colour-coded key to help identify the features.

In Art we have used Brusho to create hot and cold background for our Kandinsky inspire artwork.

Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:

√ Writing facts about British Birds.

√ Reading and writing words with ‘ew’ saying ‘oo’ or ‘yoo’.

√ Learning about aerial view maps and using Lego to make an aerial plan of our classroom.

√ Counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

√ Using Brusho to create a background for our artwork.

√ Learning to bowl and bat in cricket in PE.

√ Learning about the Jewish faith including artefacts in RE.

√ Counting to 20 in French.

Family discussion questions:

  • What plants have you got in your garden?
  • Can you count in 2s to 50? Can you count in 10s to 100? Is 25 a multiple of 5? What about 52?

Looking forward:

In English we will use the book ‘Where the Wild things are’ to inspire our portal narrative writing unit.

In Maths we will be recognising and adding equal groups through repeated addition and making arrays to show ‘lots of’.

In Science we will be leaf spotting and identifying the different parts of trees.

In D&T we will be designing a sandwich using ingredients from plants.

Reminders:

  • Our 14 day Reading Challenge has started again, so please write each time your child reads so they can earn 10 house points for their 14 consecutive reads. I will change books overnight on a Thursday

  • Homework is based on our learning from this week. This will be marked together so any misconceptions can be address. Please complete this in pencil.

  • PE this half term is Friday- please wear PE kits on this day.

If you have any questions please ask.

Thanks again for your continued support.

Kind regards and take care

Mrs Carew
